The report aims to reconstruct the main socio-economic characteristics of the Tuscan provincial territories in a synthetic manner. The analysis is organised in two parts. The first compares the provincial economies on the basis of a number of synthetic indicators relating both to settlement density and to the characteristics and strength of the local production systems. The second part, on the other hand, proposes an interpretation, province by province, of long- and short-term employment trends, in the light of the specialisations of the various local systems that make up the provincial territories.
